Contra Costa County has settled its Fiscal Year 2013/14 budget with relatively little fuss. ConFire (a separate budget) continues to have a massive pension problem that the Board of Supervisors has not dealt with.

The County also has a number of cost issues in addition to pensions. One of CoCoTAX's long time concerns has been the failure to fund repairs and maintenance project. In 2007, a study identified a $250 million backlog.  Since that time, the County has essentially only done repairs and maintenance on an emergency basis. The current budget still shows a backlog of $270 million. In the upcoming Fiscal Year, the County has earmarked only $5 million.

Will the increase in property tax revenue solve the County's problems? (Spoiler alert - no!) But the man who can explain everything you need to know about Contra Costa County is David Twa, County Administrator and a favorite of CoCoTAX speaker.

Please join him on Friday, June 14th at Denny's in Concord.  David usually fills the room so please let Jean Besse know if you will be attending.

Reservations requested.
