 INTRODUCING OUR SPEAKER: JASON BEZIS

AND HIS TOPIC: DEFECTIVE BALLOT MEASURES

Lafayette resident Jason A. Bezis is a member of the State Bar of California. He is a graduate of the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (formerly known as Boalt Hall), where he was an editor of the California Law Review. A native of Livermore, he was a White House Intern during the Clinton Administration and an intern at the Washington, D.C. bureau of a television network news division.

He filed a lawsuit against the Bay Area Housing Finance Authority (BAHFA) that compelled the agency to fix a serious error in the ballot label for Regional Measure 4 and contributed to BAHFA withdrawing its $20 billion affordable housing bond.

On the 27th, Jason will explain multiple concerns regarding Proposition 5 on November’s ballot, which would reduce the threshold for most local bond measures from two-thirds to 55%. He will also discuss various issues he has seen with local bond and tax measures, including his experience with RM4.
